The hand-sorted Danish black currants are grown under the unique Nordic climate, where cool nights and long, bright summer days allow for slow ripening. This develops a concentrated aroma and a characteristic fresh acidity, which help make Ben A truly unique. The blackcurrants are fermented at a low temperature along with their skins to extract maximum color, flavor, and complexity.

Before the traditional secondary fermentation in the bottle, the blackcurrant wine is blended with Andersen Winery’s own apple wine. This creates a beautiful balance between the intense blackcurrant fruit and a fresh, elegant acidity. The wine is then aged for at least nine months in the bottle before being disgorged and dosed, which completes its soft and sweet style.

Ben A 2022 is an ideal accompaniment to desserts featuring chocolate, ice cream, kransekage, risalamande, confectionery, or aged cheeses. Serve well-chilled, when the fine bubbles and fresh acidity truly come into their own.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Intense aromas of ripe blackcurrants, blackberries, and dark wild berries, accompanied by violets, light spices, and a hint of freshly baked brioche from bottle aging.

Palate: Full-bodied and creamy with plenty of blackcurrants, cherries, and dark berries. The sweet fruit is elegantly balanced by fresh acidity and fine, persistent bubbles, creating a lively and harmonious mouthfeel.
