Habitation Velier Last Ward 2007 – Barbados Pure Single Rum 59% | 100% Pot Still from Mount Gay

Habitation Velier Last Ward 2007 is pure rum history from Barbados. A powerful and uncompromising Barbados Pure Single Rum, distilled in 2007 and bottled in 2017 at a whopping 59%. This is not just a rum – it is the result of a unique period during the Ward family’s ownership of Mount Gay, where tradition, pot still craftsmanship and tropical aging came together.

If you’re looking for Last Ward 2007, Habitation Velier Barbados rum, 100% pot still rum 59% or a rare collector’s bottle from Mount Gay, this edition is among the most coveted in the series.

Triple distillation – pure pot still character

This rum is 100% pot still distilled in a Double Retort Pot Still at the Rum Refinery of Mount Gay in St. Lucy, Barbados. In 2007, Frank Ward – a member of the family that owned Mount Gay for over 100 years – began producing Mount Gilboa and triple-distilling the rum in the classic McMillan pot stills.

The result is a rum with intense structure, distinctive character and an aromatic depth that only true pot still distillation can deliver.

Tropical aging and rare bottling

The rum is aged for 10 years in tropical conditions in former bourbon barrels. Tropical aging accelerates maturation and results in greater concentration, deeper color and stronger barrel influence.

Velier acquired the casks following the distillery’s sale in 2014, and this bottling is the result of selecting the 19 oldest barrels – a rare and historically significant release in the Last Ward series.

Tasting notes

  • Color: Deep amber with a copper glow.
  • Aroma: Intense vanilla, toasted coconut notes, caramel and ripe tropical fruits with a hint of spicy oak.
  • Flavor: Powerful and structured with dark toffee, molasses, spices and a distinct pot still character.
  • Finish: Long, warm and concentrated with dry oak, cocoa and lingering spice.

Habitation Velier – Transparency and authenticity

The Habitation Velier range is known for its uncompromising transparency around distillation, barrel and aging. The focus is on Pure Single Rum and authentic production methods – no additions and no filtration that removes character.

Last Ward 2007 is a monument to a bygone era in Barbados and proof of why pot still rum from Mount Gay has achieved cult status among enthusiasts worldwide.
