Krohn Colheita 1983 – a port wine aged in casks for over 40 years, to be bottled in 2024

Krohn Colheita 1983 is an aged and characterful single-vintage port. The grapes were harvested in 1983, after which the wine was allowed to age slowly in wooden casks for more than four decades. It wasn’t until 2024 that this Colheita was bottled.

The long aging process has created a complex port with great depth. Ripe fruit harmonizes with notes of nuts, caramel, and spice, while the extended time in casks lends it the elegant and concentrated style that makes an aged Colheita something truly special.

Colheita Port from the 1983 vintage

Colheita is a Tawny Port from a single vintage. The wine ages for many years in wooden casks, where it slowly develops its character. Over time, the fresh fruit becomes more mature and complex, while notes of nuts, dried fruit, spices, and wood become more pronounced.

Krohn Colheita 1983 was bottled in 2024 and has thus spent more than 40 years aging in casks. This makes it an exciting Port for special occasions and for your collection. The 1983 vintage also makes it an ideal gift for a birthday or anniversary connected to that particular year.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Deep and ripe with nuances of dried fruit, walnuts, caramel, and warm spices. Subtle notes from the long barrel aging add extra complexity.

Palate: Full-bodied and concentrated with dried fruits, nuts, caramel, and spicy notes. The long barrel aging provides a beautiful balance between sweetness, ripeness, and freshness.

Finish: Long and elegant with lingering notes of nuts, dried fruit, spices, and a subtle oak character.

Serving

Krohn Colheita 1983 should be served slightly chilled. Enjoy it on its own as the perfect finish to a good meal. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and desserts featuring nuts, caramel, or dried fruit.

The History of Wiese & Krohn

Wiese & Krohn was founded in 1865 and, over generations, built a strong reputation for classic port wine. The house became particularly known for its old cask-aged port wines and an impressive stock of Colheita vintages.

Krohn later became part of The Fladgate Partnership, which also owns some of Portugal’s most famous port houses. The long tradition of cask aging lives on, making the old Krohn Colheita vintages particularly interesting for port lovers.
