Two-act aging – from sherry sweetness to Amontillado elegance

Mosgaard Amontillado Cask is aged for 7-9 years – a significant age in the Danish climate, where maturation is often experienced extra intense. The journey starts in small 50 liter Palo Cortado and Oloroso sherry casks, which quickly add deep, sweet and dark fruit notes. After 5-6 years, the best casks are selected and moved to 250 liter Amontillado hogsheads, where the whisky matures for 2-3 years.

It is precisely the Amontillado casks that give the whisky its unique signature: a dry, refined and slightly nutty note that elegantly balances the initial sweetness of the sherry. The result is an impressively complex whisky with a beautiful “dance” between sweetness, dryness and structure – rich but never heavy.

• Aroma: Orange peel, roasted nuts and dark raisins, followed by malt, caramel and a hint of cedar – like the smell of a fresh cigar box
