Papalin Jamaica High Ester 5 Year Old 2024 is an exciting and characterful rum created by legendary rum expert Luca Gargano of Velier. This release pays homage to the historic tradition of Jamaican blends from the late 1800s, when merchants created unique rums by blending distillates from multiple distilleries.

This 2024 edition is a blend of rums from several Jamaican distilleries, including Worthy Park and Hampden. The rum is aged tropically in the Caribbean, allowing for a faster and more intense development of aromas. The total blend consists of 63 casks, which together create a complex and harmonious rum.

The Worthy Park rum has matured for five years in ex-bourbon casks, adding vanilla, caramel and soft structure. The Hampden LROK rum is aged in ex-sherry casks, adding depth, dried fruit and spicy complexity. Together they create a rum with plenty of tropical fruit, warm spices and classic Jamaican high-ester character.

The rum is bottled at 47%, providing a nice balance between intensity and elegance. It’s produced without additives, color or sugar – just like Velier is known for.

Velier is one of the most respected names in the rum world. Behind the brand is Luca Gargano, who has been a pioneer of authentic rum for decades. He is known for his uncompromising bottlings and for highlighting the origin, production and aging of rum.

Velier became internationally famous for his legendary Demerara rums from Guyana and the coveted bottlings from the closed Caroni distillery in Trinidad. More recently, Gargano has worked with Richard Seale of Foursquare to bring greater transparency to the rum industry.
