Pierre Jean Villa Côte-Rôtie Carmina 2017

Pierre Jean Villa Côte-Rôtie Carmina 2017 is an elegant and terroir-driven red wine from the prestigious Côte-Rôtie appellation in the northern Rhône. Some of France’s most characterful Syrah wines are made here. The wine combines intense fruit, spice and a beautiful minerality. The result is a wine with both power and finesse.

Côte-Rôtie means “the steep slope” and refers to the steep sunny vineyards along the Rhône River. Here the Syrah grapes ripen perfectly and develop great complexity. Pierre Jean Villa’s Carmina shows just this character. The wine has deep fruit, elegant tannins and great aromatic depth.

The vinification follows a natural and respectful approach to both grapes and terroir. Fermentation takes place spontaneously without the addition of cultured yeast. Cellar interventions are kept to a minimum to preserve the natural expression of the grapes. The wine is barely filtered, resulting in a more authentic and complex wine experience.

Since the 2015 vintage, Pierre Jean Villa has primarily used used barrels for aging. This gives the wine structure and complexity without overpowering the fruit. The result is a Côte-Rôtie with a great balance between power, elegance and terroir character.

About Pierre Jean Villa
