Quevedo 30 Years White Port – Exclusive barrel aged white port from Douro

Quevedo 30 Years White Port is the epitome of what many call “the new black” in port – barrel aged white port with age, depth and serious complexity. Considering that port has been produced for hundreds of years, it’s remarkable that the white, long-aged varieties have only really received the attention they deserve in recent years. This 30 year old White Port is a shining example of why interest has exploded.

Port houses in the Douro have been scouring their quinta for old white port barrels in recent years to create blends of 10, 20, 30 and even 40 years. This version was blended and bottled in 2022 by Cláudia Quevedo, but the wine itself was originally created by her grandfather, João. In other words, this is a port that brings together three generations of craftsmanship in one bottle.

The wine comes from a time when everything was done by hand. The grapes were hand-picked and poured directly into granite vats without destemming. Fermentation was done with traditional foot treading – no temperature control and no filtration. The result is an authentic and deeply characterful white port that retains both structure and complexity through decades of barrel aging.

Tasting notes

Color: Golden amber with subtle green hues at the edge – a clear sign of long barrel maturation.

Aroma: Complex and intense nose with honey, roasted nuts, fresh almonds, crème brûlée and macerated raisins. A deep and elegant aroma profile that develops beautifully in the glass.

Taste: Multilayered and concentrated. Initially you are met with raisins and honey sweetness, followed by a refreshing light bitterness with notes of dried fruit and almonds. The structure is silky smooth and extremely well balanced.

Finish: Long and persistent with caramel, raisins, crème brûlée and a subtle spicy note that lingers. A white port with impressive balance and depth.

The house behind it – Quevedo

The Quevedo family has owned fields and vineyards for generations and is located in São João da Pesqueira in the heart of the Douro Valley. In the 1970s and 80s, the family expanded their estate, Quinta da Alegria, and in 1991 they launched their own wines under the Quevedo name.

Like many smaller producers, for decades the family sold their grapes to the big Port houses – including Taylor (Taylor Fladgate & Yeatman). In the hot vintage of 1975, the grapes were not initially purchased, and Oscar Sr. had to start production himself. This was the start of the house’s own wine production and a crucial milestone in the family’s history.

In 1983, the family bought Quinta Vale D’Agodinho, today their most important field, located between Quinta da Vargellas and the historic Cachão da Valeira. Since then, both the winery and cellars have been expanded and today the family has more than 100 hectares of vineyards. With Cláudia Quevedo as oenologist and Oscar Jr. at the helm, Quevedo now exports port all over the world – still a family-owned business with deep respect for the traditions of the Douro.
