Taylor’s 2018 Vintage Port – 6 liter Imperiale from Douro

Taylor’s 2018 Vintage Port is an impressive port from one of the world’s most respected port houses. In this large 6 liter imperial bottle, the wine is a spectacular collector’s item that also offers optimal storage conditions. Vintage Port from Taylor’s is known for its power, depth and ability to evolve in the bottle over many decades.

The vintage is made from traditional Portuguese grape varieties from the Douro Valley, where the steep terraces and warm climate produce grapes of great concentration. After fermentation, the wine was aged for around two years in oak barrels before being bottled, where it continues its slow development.

In the glass, the wine shows a deep purple color with an almost black core. The aroma is intense and elegant with notes of forest berries, especially blackberry and black currant, as well as a hint of cherry and mocha. The taste is rich and complex with fresh fruit, pronounced tannins and a nice acidity that offers great ageing potential.

This vintage port is well-structured and powerful, yet harmonious. It can be enjoyed young for its intense fruit or cellared for many years where it will develop even greater depth and complexity.

History of the house

Taylor’s Port, officially Taylor, Fladgate & Yeatman, was founded in 1692 and is one of the most prestigious port houses in the Douro. Still family-owned, the house has built a reputation over more than 300 years for some of the world’s best port wines.

The grapes for Taylor’s wines are grown in the house’s three famous vineyards: Quinta de Vargellas, Quinta de Terra Feita and Quinta do Junco. All fields are classified in category A, the highest classification in the Douro. The different microclimates produce wines with great complexity, structure and ageing potential.
