Va Piano Stoney Vineyard Syrah 2015 is a princely and juicy Syrah from the coveted Stoney Vineyard in Walla Walla, Washington. It’s impressive value for money – a wine with plenty of dark fruit, fleshy structure and classic Rhône-inspired depth.

Planted in 2007, Stoney Vineyard sits on an old riverbed shaped by the Walla Walla River. The rocky soils and warm, dry climate provide optimal conditions for Rhône varieties, and the field has quickly gained cult status among the few winemakers who have access to the fruit. The combination of warm days and cool nights creates Syrah with both concentration and freshness.

The 2015 vintage delivers intensity and ripe fruit, but still with great balance. It’s a wine that speaks directly to the Syrah lover: dark, spicy and with a generous mouthfeel.

• Aroma: Ripe blackberries, blueberries and black cherries with hints of pepper, smoke and herbs.

The history of the house

Va Piano Vineyards is located in Walla Walla, Washington, and was founded in 2003 by Justin Wylie – a true Walla Walla native who had the vineyards in his backyard. Like so many others, he started making wine in his garage, driven by a passion for the magic of grapes. What started as a hobby quickly evolved into a full-fledged winery with a focus on quality and terroir.

Va Piano works with some of the best vineyards in Walla Walla. The eponymous Va Piano vineyard is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Around 70% of the grapes are used in the house’s own wines, while the rest is sold to recognized producers like L’Ecole No. 41 – a seal of quality in itself.
