Woodrow’s of Edinburgh 45 Year Old Cuban Rum is a rare and remarkable bottling from the Warehouse Reserve series. This is an extraordinary aged rum that has developed impressive depth over almost half a century in cask. This rum was distilled at a Cuban distillery and has been aged in barrique since December 31, 1978. It was only bottled on August 22, 2024 after a full 45 years of aging. The long maturation has resulted in a complex and deep flavor profile where classic notes of molasses, dried fruit and spices merge with elegant barrel notes.

The bottling is bottled at natural cask strength of 58.4%. It is not cold filtered and has natural color. This means that the full character and structure of the rum is preserved. The result is an intense and nuanced experience where the complexity of age really comes through in the glass.

Tasting notes

Aroma: Muscovado sugar, cinnamon and smoked cigars accompanied by dried fruit, molasses, ginger biscuits and vanilla.

Flavor: Complex and rich with wood notes, cloves, smoked fudge, dates and dark chocolate. Ripe bananas, tobacco, orange peel and burnt sugar add depth.

Finish: Long and warm finish with leather, fruity nuances, licorice, roasted coffee beans and a hint of maple syrup.

History of the house

Woodrow’s of Edinburgh began as merchants of whisky casks and over the years has built up a wealth of experience in selecting special casks. Many casks are sold on to other independent bottlers, but a few prove to be so remarkable that they deserve to be bottled by the house itself.

These casks are released under the Warehouse Reserve series. Here the spirits are always bottled at cask strength, without cold filtration and with natural color. The philosophy is to present the spirit as authentically as possible. The result is small, exclusive bottlings with great character and personality.
