A.H. Riise Non Plus Ultra La Galante 43.4% – Exclusive Superior Spirit Drink with historical inspiration
A.H. Riise Non Plus Ultra La Galante is one of the most elegant and luxurious bottlings from the famous A.H. Riise house. Inspired by the historical roots of the Danish West Indies, this exquisite Superior Spirit Drink represents the highest quality in the Riise range. The name “Non Plus Ultra” simply means “nothing above this” – an expression of the highest quality and finesse.
The La Galante edition is a tribute to the age of discovery and the history that shaped the West Indies. The result is a deep, smooth and complex spirit where rich notes of fruit, spice and cask create a harmonious and luxurious taste experience. In the glass, it appears with a beautiful deep amber color and an intense aroma that immediately reveals its elegant character.
This Superior Spirit Drink is perfect for slow enjoyment in a good glass where the many aromatic layers can unfold. It is ideal for special moments where quality and history go hand in hand.
Tasting notes
Nose: Inviting aromas of orange, caramel, crème brûlée and vanilla. Deeper notes of mahogany and aromatic Bay Rum wood, which grows wild in the West Indies.
Flavor: Complex, rich and silky with spicy nuances. Orange, creamy vanilla and lemon melt together with elegant notes from carefully selected oak barrels.
Finish: Rich and creamy aftertaste where the flavor nuances gradually develop, leaving a long, elegant finish.
St. Croix – the garden of the West Indies
If there is a historical center of the West Indian spirit tradition, it must be the islands of the Caribbean. Christopher Columbus discovered St. Croix on his second voyage to the New World in 1493, bringing with him, among other things, sugar cane. The island’s fertile soil quickly proved ideal for growing sugar cane, earning St. Croix the nickname “The Garden of the West Indies”.
From the early 1700s, St. Croix became the center of sugar cane production in the Danish West Indies. During sugar production, molasses was produced as a by-product, which quickly proved to be perfect for distilling a sweet and aromatic spirit.
One of the pioneers of this production was the Danish pharmacist Albert Heinrich Riise, who lived and worked in the Danish West Indies from 1838 to 1878. In his pharmacy in the capital Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas, he produced bitters and spirits that were originally used as medicine for stomach problems and other ailments.
In 1893, the historic A.H. Riise Company put West Indian products on the world map under the name Old St. Croix. Non Plus Ultra La Galante is created as a tribute to the 150th anniversary of this milestone in Riise’s history.
