Aalto Ribera del Duero 2021

Aalto Ribera del Duero 2021 is an impressive Spanish red wine with power, elegance and depth. This wine comes from the famous Ribera del Duero in Castilla y León, an area known for producing some of Spain’s most intense and characterful wines. Aalto has quickly achieved iconic status among wine lovers, and this vintage is a great example of the house’s uncompromising focus on quality and terroir.

The wine is made primarily from Tempranillo grapes from old vines that are typically between 40 and 80 years old. These old vines produce grapes with great concentration, depth and complexity. The grapes are hand-harvested from carefully selected plots in Ribera del Duero and Valladolid, where the continental climate with warm days and cool nights provides optimal conditions for slow ripening and intense aroma development.

After fermentation, the wine is aged for around 16 months in a combination of new and used oak barrels from both France and the USA. This aging adds structure, complexity and elegant spicy notes that complement the wine’s dark fruit. The result is a wine with a great balance between power and finesse.

In the glass, Aalto 2021 appears deep dark purple with great intensity. The nose opens with concentrated aromas of blackberry, black currant and blueberry, accompanied by subtle notes of vanilla, spice and light toast. The palate is rich and complex with great structure, fresh tannins and remarkable length. Hints of licorice, dark fruit and a touch of smoked bacon give the wine extra character and depth.

Aalto Ribera del Duero 2021 is a wine that pairs perfectly with hearty dishes such as grilled beef, lamb, game or dishes with mushrooms and rich sauces. It can be enjoyed now, but will also develop further complexity with a few years of aging.

The history of the house

Bodegas Aalto was founded in 1999 by Mariano García, the former legendary winemaker at Vega Sicilia, and Javier Zaccagnini, one of the pioneers of Ribera del Duero’s modern development. The goal was to create wines that combine the region’s traditions with modern winemaking. Today, Aalto is one of the most respected producers in Ribera del Duero and is known for wines of great concentration, elegance and impressive ageing potential.
