Caperdonich 20 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Single Cask 54.1% Valinch & Mallet

Caperdonich 20 Year Old Speyside Single Malt is a rare whisky from a distillery that lives on today only through the casks that still exist. This exclusive single cask is selected and bottled by independent bottler Valinch & Mallet. The bottler is known for finding casks with great character and high quality.

The whisky was distilled in 2000 in the heart of Speyside, Scotland. It was then matured for 20 years in a classic Bourbon Hogshead cask. In 2020 it was bottled at natural cask strength of 54.1%. The long maturation gives a great balance between fruit, sweetness and cask.

This is a true single cask whisky. This means that all bottles come from a single cask. In this case, cask number VMT29511. 315 bottles were bottled in total. Each bottle is therefore a small part of the history of whisky from a closed distillery.

The bourbon cask highlights the classic Speyside notes. Here, soft fruit, honey and vanilla meet an elegant cask structure. The result is a harmonious and complex whisky with both depth and finesse. A bottling that collectors and whisky lovers alike will appreciate.

The history of the Caperdonich Distillery

The Caperdonich distillery was founded in 1898 in Speyside. It was located close to Glen Grant and was initially known as Glen Grant No. 2. Later the distillery was named Caperdonich.

For many years the distillery produced malt whisky for blends. Nevertheless, the quality was quickly recognized among whisky drinkers. In 2002 production stopped and in 2011 the distillery was demolished. As a result, each Caperdonich bottling becomes rarer every year.

Today, Caperdonich whisky is sought after by collectors. It represents a style from a distillery that will never come back. That’s why single cask bottlings like this one are so special.
