Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino Poggio Alle Mura 2013 is a true cru from the heart of Tuscany. This iconic Brunello comes from selected vineyards around the medieval Castello Banfi, historically known as Poggio alle Mura – the walled hilltop in the south of Montalcino. Here, history, terroir and precision come together in a wine that represents the very best of Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.

The 2013 vintage is considered one of the classic and age-worthy vintages in Montalcino. The combination of optimal growing conditions and strict selection produces a Sangiovese with depth, structure and elegance. This Brunello is made for the cellar – but also for great moments at the table.

The wine is fermented in stainless steel with traditional maceration for maximum extraction of color and structure. It is then aged for a minimum of four years. At least 24 months in oak – 90% in French barriques and 10% in Slavic barrels – followed by at least 24 months of bottle aging before release. The result is a wine with complexity, balance and impressive ageing potential.

Tasting notes

Color: Deep ruby red with incipient garnet red nuances.

Aroma: Elegant bouquet with violets, ripe red berries and sweet cherries. Notes of cigar box, spices and light balsamic character add depth.

Flavor: Intense and well-structured. Flavors of plums, cherries, blackberry jam and raspberries. Discreet cask character supports the fruit without dominating. Supple tannins and great concentration create a harmonious whole.

Finish: Long, persistent and elegant with classic Brunello character.

Serving and food pairing

This Brunello is ideal with strong meat dishes, game, osso buco, truffle dishes and mature firm cheeses. Decant 1-2 hours before serving to unlock the wine’s full potential. Serve at 16-18°C.
