Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio all’Oro 2013 – Iconic world-class Tuscany

Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio all’Oro 2013 is the crown jewel from one of Tuscany’s most recognized producers. This is a top-class Brunello – made from only the best vintages and only the finest parcels. The 2013 vintage is classic, structured and age-worthy with an impressive balance between power and elegance.

Poggio all’Oro is made from 100% Sangiovese from carefully selected parcels around Montalcino. The grapes are harvested at optimum ripeness and only the best fruit material finds its way into this Riserva. The result is a wine with deep concentration, silky structure and a complexity that only develops through patience and uncompromising quality.

The wine is aged for approximately 2 years in oak barrels where it builds depth and structure, followed by a further 8-12 months of bottle aging before release. The result is a harmonious and rounded Brunello with both intensity and finesse – a wine made for the cellar, but already an experience in a class of its own.

Tasting notes

Color: Deep ruby red with garnet red nuances.

Aroma: Intense and complex with aromas of ripe cherries, plums and dried rose petals. Hints of tobacco, leather, balsamic and spicy oak add depth.

Flavor: Full-bodied and structured with concentrated red fruit, firm but ripe tannins and vibrant acidity for freshness and balance. Layers of spice, dark chocolate and minerality unfold elegantly.

Finish: Long and persistent with classic Brunello structure and impressive ageing potential.

Serving suggestions

The story behind the house

Castello Banfi is located near Montalcino in Tuscany and has about 3,000 hectares of land, of which about 1,000 hectares are planted with vines. The winery was founded in 1978 and has since established itself as a pioneer of quality wine in the region. With one of Europe’s most advanced wineries and an impressive 11th century fortress – now a luxury restaurant – Banfi combines history, innovation and tradition.

A focus on research, sustainability and precision in the field has made Castello Banfi a reference producer in Brunello di Montalcino. Poggio all’Oro Riserva is the house’s ultimate expression of Sangiovese from Montalcino – a wine that combines terroir, craftsmanship and ambition in one great experience.
