Château Pontet-Canet Pauillac 5th Cru Classé 1985 – Mature greatness from Pauillac
Château Pontet-Canet 1985 is a rare opportunity to experience classic Pauillac in full maturity. A wine that today is harmonious, elegant and deeply nuanced – living proof of why great Bordeaux wines reward patience. Here you get a true 5. Cru Classé that has evolved beautifully over almost four decades and now delivers an absolutely world-class wine experience.
This vintage is particularly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs looking for mature Bordeaux, Pauillac 1985, Château Pontet-Canet and authentic wine with history, character and soul. It’s wine for the big moments – or for the wine lover who wants to taste Bordeaux at its very best.
Pontet-Canet 1985 combines Pauillac’s classic structure and depth with an almost Burgundian elegance. The tannins are silky smooth, the fruit is beautifully rounded, and the tertiary aromas give the wine a complexity that only time can create.
A classic Pauillac in perfect balance
The vintage offers a wine with both power and finesse. The ripe fruit is beautifully balanced with notes of cedar, tobacco and spice – exactly the expression that has made Pauillac famous the world over. The mouthfeel is soft, refined and incredibly elegant, with a long and persistent finish.
This is a wine that is perfectly suited to classic dishes with beef, lamb, game or mature cheeses – but can also be enjoyed on its own, allowing its complexity to fully unfold.

The history of the house
Château Pontet-Canet has a unique history stretching back to the early 1600s. The castle was founded by Jean-François de Pontet and later expanded with fields from Canet, giving the property its current name. Classified as a 5th Cru Classé in the famous 1855 classification, Château Pontet-Canet has had very few owners throughout its long history. In 1975, the château was taken over by the Tesseron family, who have since raised the quality significantly and positioned Pontet-Canet among the most respected wines in all of Bordeaux.
Today, the house is known for its uncompromising approach to field work, biodynamic principles and a vinification that focuses on balance rather than excessive barrel influence. Château Pontet-Canet 1985 is a shining example of this philosophy – a wine where nature, craft and time work together perfectly.
