Gabel Steig Weissburgunder Trocken 2024

Gabel Steig Weissburgunder Trocken 2024 is an impressive and characterful white wine from the Palatinate that shows why Weissburgunder is among the most exciting white grape varieties in Germany. At Weingut Gabel, Weissburgunder is the house passion alongside Pinot Noir, and this particular Steig cuvée represents some of the best the house produces.

The wine comes from a field of more than 40-year-old vines planted by Oliver Gabel’s grandfather. The old vines produce a naturally low yield and grapes with great concentration, complexity and finesse. Harvesting is done manually over several rounds so that each bunch is picked at the optimal ripening time. The must is then fermented spontaneously without the addition of yeast in large tonneaux and half barrels before being aged for a year and bottled unfiltered to preserve its natural character and depth.

The result is a white wine with an elegance and complexity reminiscent of great white Burgundy, but with a fresher, more lively and floral style. A wine that both impresses the experienced wine lover and surprises those who have yet to discover the enormous potential of Weissburgunder.

Steig Weissburgunder is an excellent companion to fish, shellfish, lobster, scallops, light meat, poultry, creamy pasta dishes, risotto and mature cheeses. At the same time, the wine has enough structure and acidity to develop nicely over the coming years.

Tasting notes

Color: Light golden with beautiful reflections.

Aroma: Elegant and complex with notes of mirabelle plums, ripe citrus fruits, orange peel and a hint of roasted nuts. Subtle notes of barrel aging add depth and finesse.

Palate: Full-bodied and harmonious with layers of yellow stone fruit, citrus, light spice and fine nutty nuances. The fresh and lively acidity creates balance and provides a long, clean and mineral finish.
