Kopke Colheita Port 1966

Kopke Colheita 1966 is an extremely rare, aged Colheita Port from one of the Douro Valley’s most historic port houses. The grapes were harvested in 1966, after which the port was allowed to develop slowly over decades in oak barrels. It wasn’t until 2021 that this vintage was bottled—after approximately 55 years of aging.

The extremely long barrel aging has created a port with impressive depth and complexity. At the same time, the Kopke Colheita 1966 has retained a vibrant freshness that balances the ripe and concentrated flavor notes. This is aged port at its most elegant.

Tasting Notes

The aroma is intense and complex, with dried fruits, toasted nuts, caramel, and subtle smoky notes. With a little time in the glass, even more nuances emerge.

The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, featuring dried fruit, nuts, and sweet caramelized notes. The lovely acidity brings freshness and lifts the port, so that despite its advanced age, it remains elegant and harmonious. The finish is long, complex, and lingering.

Kopke – Port Wine Since 1638

Kopke was founded in 1638 and is considered one of the oldest port wine houses. Over the centuries, the house has built up special expertise in cask-aged port wines and is today particularly famous for its Colheita vintages.

A Colheita is a port wine from a single vintage that matures for many years in wooden casks. Kopke’s old cellars house a unique collection of these wines, and Kopke Colheita 1966 is an outstanding example of what decades of patience can create.
