Quinta do Noval 2020 Vintage Port – Intense and rare top Douro Vintage

Quinta do Noval 2020 Vintage Port is a concentrated and powerful vintage from one of the Douro’s most iconic producers. The house only declares Vintage in years when the quality fully meets their own uncompromising standards. In 2020, just 1,055 cases of 12 bottles were produced, representing only 7% of the total production. This makes this Vintage both rare and highly sought after.

The grapes come exclusively from Quinta do Noval’s own vineyards in the heart of the Douro. The vintage was harvested in September 2020 over an intense period of just 22 days. It required precision and speed, but the result is a wine with great concentration and structure.

The blend consists of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinto Cão, Sousão and Tinta Roriz. After fermentation, the wine was aged for 18 months in barrels in the house cellars before being bottled in 2022. The controlled barrel aging preserves the purity of the fruit and ensures a balance between power and elegance.

Tasting notes

Color: Dense dark ruby with a deep violet core.

Aroma: Intense notes of blackcurrant, blackberry and dark plums. Also floral notes and subtle spice.

Flavor: Full-bodied and structured with dense dark fruit, firm tannin and fresh acidity. Sousão and Touriga Nacional provide backbone and energy.

Finish: Long and powerful with great ageing potential.

This Vintage Port can be enjoyed young with decanting, but will develop nicely over decades in the cellar.

Quinta do Noval

Quinta do Noval is one of the most famous quinta in the Douro and has been producing port since the early 1700s. Located in Cima Corgo, the property is known for its uncompromising approach to quality.

The house combines traditional foot treading in lagares with modern techniques and ages the wines in its own cellars. Only the best years are declared as Vintage, no matter how small the production may be. It is this consistent quality philosophy that has made Quinta do Noval a reference in Vintage Port.
