Ridge Vineyards Geyserville 2022 – iconic Zinfandel from Sonoma County

Ridge Vineyards Geyserville 2022 is one of the most iconic Zinfandel wines from California. It’s a red wine at the very top of its class. It combines intense fruit, elegance and complexity in a classy way. Geyserville has been delighting wine lovers for decades. The 2022 vintage confirms the high level of the house.

The wine comes from the famous Geyserville Vineyard in Sonoma County. Some of the vines are up to 130 years old. This gives an impressive depth and concentration. Zinfandel makes up the majority of the blend. Carignan and Petite Sirah add structure and spice. The result is a harmonious and characterful wine.

At Ridge Vineyards, the philosophy is simple. The wines must reflect their origin clearly and accurately. Therefore, the wine is aged for 13 months in American oak barrels. Only a small proportion of the barrels are new. This leaves room for the fruit. The balance between barrel and fruit is one of the wine’s greatest strengths.

The color is deep and dark ruby red. The aroma offers dark cherries and ripe berries. Spices, cola and mint are also present. There is also a subtle hint of earthiness. The taste is full-bodied and juicy. Notes of pomegranate and rose petals emerge. Cocoa and light smoke round off the experience. The finish is long and elegant.

Ridge Geyserville 2022 is ideal for hearty dishes. It goes perfectly with beef, lamb and game. It also works well with simmered dishes. It can also be enjoyed on its own. It’s already impressing now, but can also be stored in the cellar.

Tasting notes: Dark cherry, blackberry, pomegranate, spices, cola, mint, rose petals, cocoa and a hint of smoke.

History of the house: Ridge Vineyards has roots dating back to 1885. Dr. Osea Perrone purchased land in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Here he planted the first vines. Later, Paul Draper came along. He raised the quality significantly. Draper made Ridge world famous. Especially the Monte Bello, Geyserville and Lytton Springs wines gained iconic status. The Paris tasting in 1976 cemented the house’s reputation. Today, the work is continued by Eric Baugher. He maintains the style and quality of the house.
