Rozès Colheita 1950 – Rare and historic Tawny Port from Douro

Rozès Colheita 1950 is not just a port – it’s history in the making. A true Colheita from 1950, aged for decades in barrel and bottled with respect for both tradition and terroir. Purchased at auction in 2017 from the historic collection of Casa do Douro, this wine represents a unique opportunity for collectors and Port lovers.

A Colheita is a vintage Tawny that has been aged for many years in oak barrels. The 1950 vintage has had decades to develop complexity, nuttiness and silky depth. It is a wine of intense concentration and a rare elegance that only time can create.

Serve slightly chilled at 12-14°C in a tulip glass. Perfect as a meditation wine, with nut-based desserts, crème brûlée or simply as an exclusive glass in good company.

Tasting notes

  • Color: Deep amber with mahogany and copper tones.
  • Aroma: Intense aromas of dried fruits, walnuts, caramel and spices.
  • Taste: Silky and concentrated with notes of figs, raisins, roasted nuts and a hint of toffee.
  • Finish: Very long and complex with an elegant balance between sweetness and acidity.

History of the house

Rozès was founded in 1855 in Bordeaux by M. Ostende Rozès. A few years later, the port wine trade began – a success that was mainly driven by his son Edmond Rozès. In 1938, Rozès established himself in Vila Nova de Gaia and became known for high quality port wines.

After periods of stagnation during 2. World War II, activities resumed in 1959. Ownership has since been in the hands of major international wine and spirits groups and since 1999 Rozès has been part of Vranken Monopole/Pommery.

This Colheita comes from the historic Casa do Douro warehouses. Casa do Douro was established in 1932 under state control to regulate production and prices in the Douro region following the economic crises in the wake of the Wall Street crash of 1929. During the period in which Casa do Douro acted as regulator, a significant amount of old Port was collected – and this rare 1950 vintage is from there.
