Sangenís i Vaqué Garbinada Grenache & Carignan 2023 – authentic Priorat with energy and finesse

Garbinada 2023 from Sangenís i Vaqué is an honest and vibrant red wine from the heart of Priorat – made for those who want to taste the raw power, mineral depth and cooling freshness of the region in its purest form. Composed of 60% Grenache and 40% Carignan, the wine is named after the cool, maritime breeze “Garbinada” that blows across the vineyards around Porrera, giving the grapes balance and suppleness during the hot summer months.

There is no barrel aging and no filtration. Garbinada is vinified in old, underground cement vats – the traditional cubs – lined with ceramic tiles. This method preserves the natural energy of the grapes and highlights Priorat’s unique terroir of llicorella slate. The result is a juicy, structured and mineral red wine with depth, nerve and a clear imprint of its origins. A true DOQ Priorat experience for those who seek authenticity over polished perfection.

Tasting notes

The color is deep ruby red with violet nuances. On the nose, you’re met with intense aromas of dark berries and cherries, accompanied by Mediterranean herbs, licorice and the characteristic mineral note of the slate soil. The palate is tight, elegant and juicy with ripe tannins and great structure. Notes of plum, black tea and forest floor unfold in a long and persistent aftertaste, where the wine’s freshness and energy are razor sharp.

The history of the house – Sangenís i Vaqué

Sangenís i Vaqué has deep roots in the wine traditions of Porrera and Priorat. In 1978, Pere Sangenís and Conxita Vaqué replanted the family’s old vineyards and helped revive the area’s proud wine tradition. However, the family can trace their winemaking heritage back to 1886, when Conxita’s grandfather, Josep Simó, worked as a winemaker and winegrower. The historic cellar at Plaça Catalunya in Porrera is still the heart of production today. Today, the house is run by the next generation, Maria and Núria, in close collaboration with their father – with respect for tradition, low yields and an uncompromising focus on quality. All fields are within the borders of Porrera and each bottle is a concentrated expression of nature, heritage and craftsmanship.
