Taylor’s 1968 Single Harvest Very Old Port is a rare and deeply impressive port from one of the world’s most iconic port houses. This exclusive Single Harvest Port is made from grapes from a single harvest and aged for decades in oak barrels until it reaches full maturity and complexity. Taylor’s has one of the largest holdings of very old cask-aged Port in the Douro Valley. Among these is a unique collection of Single Harvest Ports, where each wine represents a single harvest year and is bottled with the year clearly marked on the label. Each year, Taylor’s releases a limited amount of Ports harvested 50 years earlier – and the 1968 is the fifth in this prestigious series.

The color is a beautiful chestnut brown with warm amber highlights. The aroma is delicate and complex with notes of walnuts, marzipan, black pepper and warm spices. The taste is concentrated and full-bodied, yet silky and elegant with hints of raisins and caramel. The well-preserved acidity adds a surprising freshness that enhances the wine’s age and leads to a long, persistent and harmonious finish.

Serve slightly chilled at 12-16°C in spacious glasses. Perfect with nut-based desserts, aged cheeses – or as a meditative end to a big dinner.

The history of the house

Founded in 1692,Taylor, Fladgate & Yeatman is one of the oldest and most traditional Port houses in the world. Still family-owned and completely independent, the house is headquartered in Vila Nova de Gaia, where the Ports are aged and exported to over 50 countries worldwide.

The grapes are grown in the Douro Valley on Taylor’s own iconic quintas: Quinta de Vargellas, Quinta de Terra Feita and Quinta do Junco. The diverse microclimates and classification in the highest quality category form the foundation for some of the world’s most age-worthy and prestigious Port wines.
