Taylor’s Historical Collection III Limited Edition Tawny Port

Taylor’s Historical Collection III is a unique and collectible port that combines history and craftsmanship. This limited edition is inspired by the early “mallet-cylinder” bottles from the mid-18th century. It was precisely this type of bottle that became the forerunner of today’s classic wine bottle.

The series celebrates the evolution of the wine bottle through the 17th and 18th centuries. Back then, bottles were hand-blown and often round and impractical for storage. Over time, they became more elongated and functional. This edition represents an important step in that evolution.

The contents are an exclusive Tawny Port blended from carefully selected casks from Taylor’s vast stock. The wine is aged in old oak barrels in the house’s lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia. The long barrel aging results in a wine with great complexity, softness and depth.

In the glass, the wine has a deep red-brown color and a beautiful brick-colored rim. The aroma is ripe and intense. Notes of coffee, caramel and dried fruit emerge. There are also nuances of plums, raisins and fine spices. A hint of nuts and subtle floral notes add complexity.

The taste is round and full-bodied with a silky smooth texture. Tones of toffee, dried fruit and nuts recur. The structure is harmonious and well-balanced. The finish is long, warm and persistent with classic Tawny character and a nice grip.

This port is ready to be enjoyed now. It’s perfect for desserts with caramel and nuts. It’s also great with blue cheese or as a glass on its own. Once opened, the wine can stay fresh for up to two months.
