Taylor’s Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha Vintage 1995 is one of the most coveted and rare ports from the Douro Valley. This exclusive edition comes in an original box of three bottles and represents the very best in vintage port. The wine is created from the oldest vines of the legendary Quinta de Vargellas winery and produced in very limited quantities.

The 1995 vintage is particularly historic as it was the first time Taylor’s decided to select grapes from the vineyard’s oldest vines – known as “vinha velha”. The grapes were harvested separately and vinified to create a port that expresses the purest and most concentrated character from this iconic vineyard.

The result is a vintage port with enormous depth, structure and complexity. The wine is made for very long aging and can evolve for decades. For collectors and Port enthusiasts, Vargella’s Vinha Velha is among the rarest vintage Ports ever produced.

Production is extremely small. The oldest terraced vineyards on the property only account for around 15% of the total production. The Vinha Velha wine itself is typically less than 2% of the winery’s total production. Therefore, these wines are released in very limited quantities and distributed through strict allocation.

To ensure a wide distribution of the few bottles, the wine is released exclusively in cases of three bottles. This presentation also makes the edition particularly attractive to collectors, investors and passionate Port lovers.

Tasting notes

The color is deep and intense ruby with dark violet hues. The aroma is complex with layers of black berries, sun-ripened plums and dark cherries. There are also notes of violet, spices, cocoa and light mineral nuances.

The taste is powerful, concentrated and elegant. Dense layers of blackberry, dark fruit and chocolate combine with structured tannins and great balance. The finish is very long and intense with great finesse and depth.

Taylor’s Port is one of the world’s most prestigious Port houses. Founded in 1692, the house is known for some of the greatest vintage ports from the Douro Valley. Taylor’s is particularly famous for wines with structure, ageing potential and great elegance.

Quinta de Vargellas was acquired by Taylor’s in 1893, but the winery’s reputation dates back to the 1820s. Located in the eastern part of the Douro Valley, the property is considered among the world’s finest vineyards. It produces wines with pure fruit, great precision and elegant tannins.
