Tomatin Decades II Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky 46% – A masterpiece across five decades
Tomatin Decades II is a unique Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky where history, craftsmanship and vision merge into one exclusive bottling. At 46% alcohol and created from carefully selected casks from five different decades, this is a whisky for collectors and passionate connoisseurs seeking the ultimate in depth, complexity and character.
The first Decades release was launched in 2011 to pay tribute to legendary Master Distiller Douglas Campbell. With Decades II, his successor, Graham Eunson, has continued and refined the idea. Inspired by the original, he has hand-picked 21 casks from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. Five different cask types are carefully blended to create a unique and harmonious single malt, with each decade contributing its own personality.
Each golden drop is drawn from carefully selected casks and expertly blended into a whisky that demonstrates the breadth and depth of Tomatin’s impressive stock. The result is a complex, balanced and deeply fascinating Highland single malt where maturity and youth meet in perfect harmony.
Cask composition and decades
1970s – Refill Bourbon Hogsheads
Distilled in 1973, 1975 and 1977. These casks have provided minimal oak influence and allowed the natural character of the distillate to develop. The result is depth, elegance and exotic tropical fruit notes.
1980s – First Fill Oloroso Sherry Butts
Distilled in 1988 and matured for over three years in first fill Oloroso sherry casks. Offers notes of leather, polished oak, dark roasted coffee, stone fruit and dark chocolate with an almost cognac-like richness.
1990s – First Fill Bourbon Fade
Distilled in 1995. Develops characteristics of golden syrup, fresh baked cookies and warm spices. A bold and structured malt that adds length and body.
2000s – Used Verdejo Wine Barrels
Distilled in 2000 and 2009. The Verdejo casks add sweetness and a slightly spicy vinous character that adds complexity and a modern edge.
2010s – Second Fill French Oak Barrels
Distilled in 2013. Younger whisky aged in second fill French oak, allowing the fresh fruity and malty style of the distillery to emerge with subtle spice and toffee.
Tasting notes
Aroma: Complex and layered with tropical fruit, dried fruit, dark chocolate and polished oak. Underlying notes of honey, malt and warm spices.
Flavor: Rich and harmonious with nuances of stone fruit, syrup, toffee and roasted nuts. The depth of the sherry and the sweetness of the bourbon cask are elegantly balanced by fresh green fruits and spicy French oak.
Finish: Long, silky and persistent with warm spices, dark cocoa and ripe fruit.
