Beenleigh 2013 10 year old Australian rum – 59% (bottled 2023)

If you’re looking for a powerful, complex and truly tropical aged Australian rum, then Beenleigh 2013 10 years is a name you need to know. Distilled in Queensland and aged in warm, tropical conditions, this bottling offers an intense depth and concentration rarely found in cooler climates. At 59% alcohol, you get a rum with muscle, detail and a long, warming finish – perfect for slow enjoyment in a glass.

Distilled in 2013 and bottled in 2023, this rum is made using an exciting combination of technique and craftsmanship: first distilled in a single column, then redistilled in the distillery’s copper pot still in August and September 2013. The result is a rum where you get both purity and richness – and where the copper distillation adds extra texture and deeper layers of aroma.

Aged in former bourbon barrels at the distillery in Eagleby, Queensland. Tropical aging means higher evaporation and faster maturation, resulting in a rum that feels more intense and “finished” than age alone would suggest. This is a rum for those who love character, depth and distinct barrel impressions – without losing the distillery’s own identity.

Tasting notes

  • Nose: Distinctive and warm with distinct bourbon barrel notes, dark caramelized sweetness and a hint of spice.
  • Palate: Full-bodied and concentrated – the power of 59% carries the flavor beautifully with depth, structure and a robust, rummy core.
  • Finish: Long, warming and persistent with cask character and spicy complexity.

The history of the house

Beenleigh has a special place in Australian rum history. The distillery dates its heritage back to 1884 and is considered one of the oldest rum distilleries in Australia. It is also cited as part of the historic supply to the Australian Navy during the classic ‘tot’ era – a period when rum was more than just a drink: it was tradition, ration and identity.
