Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 2. Cru Classé Saint-Julien 2016 – Power, precision and classic greatness

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 2016 is one of the great wines of Saint-Julien and a shining example of why the château is considered among the absolute elite of the Médoc. As a 2nd Cru Classé in the 1855 classification, Ducru-Beaucaillou delivers a wine with depth, structure and an elegance only found in the greatest Bordeaux vintages.

The 2016 vintage is legendary in Bordeaux. A perfect balance of sun, heat and cool nights produced grapes with intense concentration and great acidity. The result is a wine with impressive precision and top-class ageing potential.

The name “Beaucaillou” refers to the large, beautiful pebbles in the vineyards. These stones store heat during the day and release it at night. This ensures optimal ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon in particular, which forms the backbone of the wine. The combination of terroir and uncompromising vinification results in a Saint-Julien with both power and finesse.

This is a wine for the big moments. Perfect with beef, lamb, game or mature cheeses. It can be enjoyed young after decanting, but will develop majestically over the next 20-30 years.

About Château Ducru-Beaucaillou – The Borie family and three generations of quality

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou was taken over by the Borie family in 1942. At that time, the château was in need of renewal. Francis Borie carried out extensive renovations and significantly improved the quality.

His son, Jean-Eugène Borie, continued the success throughout the second half of the 20th century. Today, the castle is run by the third generation, François-Xavier and Bruno Borie. The family has maintained an uncompromising approach to quality, investment and precision over three generations.

Ducru-Beaucaillou stands today as an icon of Saint-Julien – a combination of historical heritage, modern technique and exceptional terroir. The 2016 vintage is a strong testament to the chateau’s position among Bordeaux’s absolute top.
