In 2007, Ichiro Akuto, grandson of Hanyu Distillery´s founder Isoji Akuto, started a new chapter in Japan´s whisky history building Chichibu Distillery 70 km. northwest of Tokyo in Saitama prefecture; the first spirit flowed in February 2008. Th e tiny distillery has a hand stirred mash tun, Japanese Mizunara oak washback and a pair of small copper pot stills from Forsyths if Rothes, Scotland. Several different cask types are used including bourbon barrels, hogshead and sherry butt, all of which are matured in traditional dunnage-style warehouses.
An honey-like smoothness, compliments the rich sweet aromas. A refreshing impression of fresh green fruit adds to the long lasting and satisfyring finish.
