Chichibu The First Ten is a historic Japanese single malt whisky marking the first 10 years of production from the renowned Chichibu Distillery. Created by distillery founder Ichiro Akuto, this exclusive 2020 bottling represents a milestone in modern Japanese whisky production.

Chichibu Distillery was established in 2007 in Saitama Prefecture, about 70 km northwest of Tokyo. Ichiro Akuto is the grandson of the founder of the legendary Hanyu distillery, and with Chichibu he wanted to create a new chapter in Japanese whisky history. The first spirit flowed from the distillery’s boilers in February 2008.

The distillery is known for its artisanal approach. Production takes place in small batches with a hand stirred mash tun, fermentation in Japanese Mizunara oak pumpkins and distillation in small copper pot stills from Forsyths in Scotland. This combination of Japanese precision and Scottish tradition results in a whisky with great character and complexity.

The whisky is matured in several different cask types, including bourbon casks, hogsheads and sherry butts. The maturation takes place in traditional dunnage warehouses, where the climate slowly develops the whisky’s aromas and structure. The result is an elegant and harmonious single malt with sweetness, fruit and depth.
