Croft Quinta da Roêda Serikos 2017 is a rare, super-premium vintage port, created from the oldest vines of the legendary Quinta da Roêda. The name “Serikos” means “silky” in Greek – and that’s exactly what you experience in the glass: deep, youthful and irresistibly elegant.

This is Croft’s first super-premium release from the so-called heritage plots – parcels planted way back between 1889 and 1900 after phylloxera. These are vineyards with history in their roots and character in every drop, and the result is a port with intensity without being heavy – and with a finesse that makes it perfect for both the collector and the discerning port connoisseur.

On the palate, Serikos unfolds with ripe, gentle mint fruit, a distinct herbal touch and a refined hint of rose petals. At the next tasting, a hint of stewed plum also emerges for added depth. It’s sweet and juicy, almost hiding the tannins – but they’re there: fine-grained and extremely well-integrated, with mint and herbal freshness on the mid-palate leading through to a mouthwatering, fresh finish. Not the biggest in muscle – but it’s certainly elegant in style.
