Glenfarclas 190th Anniversaryis a historic anniversary whisky, created to celebrate 190 years of legal whisky production at the Glenfarclas Distillery. This exclusive Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky blends whiskies from five different decades, offering a unique insight into the classic Glenfarclas style across generations.

Glenfarclas 190 is also the final release in the distillery’s Anniversary Trilogy. The series began with Glenfarclas 175, was followed by Glenfarclas 185, and now concludes with this special 190th-anniversary bottling.

78 carefully selected casks

For Glenfarclas 190, Distillery Manager Callum Fraser and Managing Director Douglas Belford reviewed the impressive selection of casks in Glenfarclas’ warehouses. Ultimately, 78 casks were hand-selected and blended to create the finished whisky.

The whisky contains distillates from five decades of production. The result is a complex and full-bodied Glenfarclas with great depth, ripe fruit, and the classic sherry character for which the distillery is famous.

51.4% with historical significance

Glenfarclas 190 is bottled at 51.4%. This strength corresponds to 90 British Proof, which was the system Glenfarclas used to indicate alcohol strength throughout the distillery’s first 154 years of production.

The whisky is non-chill-filtered and bottled without added color. This results in an authentic Glenfarclas, where the whisky’s natural character is allowed to shine through clearly.

Tasting Notes

Nose: An inviting aroma of green apples, sweet sherry, and warm spices. Notes of spiced Christmas cake add extra depth and classic Glenfarclas character.

Taste: Full-bodied, rich, and velvety smooth, with green apples, sherry sweetness, ripe fruit, and warm spices. A powerful yet elegant whiskey with beautiful balance.

Finish: Long and lingering with dark chocolate, spices, and an elegant hint of fresh tobacco.

The History of Glenfarclas

Glenfarclas Distillery was officially licensed in 1836. Since 1865, the Grant family has run the distillery, and the traditions have been carried on through six generations.

Glenfarclas continues to adhere to traditional production methods. Among other things, the distillery uses directly fired copper stills, which help create the powerful and distinctive spirit.

Sherry casks have also played a central role throughout Glenfarclas’ long history. In recent years, the casks have come from a family-owned bodega in Jerez, Spain. The combination of sherry casks, traditional distillation, and generations of experience has created the rich and full-bodied style for which Glenfarclas is known worldwide.
