Glenfarclas 30 years – Great classic Highland Single Malt Whisky

Glenfarclas 30 year is the epitome of classic, old-school Scotch single malt whisky. This is a deeply mature and majestic whisky from one of Scotland’s most respected and loved family-owned distilleries. It’s whisky with weight, character and a rare elegance only achieved through extremely long maturation in carefully selected sherry casks.

Glenfarclas is known as a true master of sherry maturation, and this 30-year-old version is a textbook example of the distillery’s unique style. The whisky is aged in Oloroso-seasoned casks supplied by bodega José y Miguel Martin – a collaboration that has helped define Glenfarclas’ character for decades. The result is a big, robust yet silky whisky that unfolds slowly and majestically in the glass.

The exceptionally long maturation is made possible by the distillery’s cool dunnage warehouses, where evaporation – the so-called angel’s share – is reportedly as low as 0.3% per year. This allows it to retain strength, depth and balance even after three decades of patient maturation.

Tasting notes

Aroma: Deep and complex nose with dried fruit, raisins, dark sherry, nuts and orange peel. Notes of leather, polished oak, tobacco and warm spices.

Flavor: Full-bodied, rounded and impressively balanced. Layers upon layers of sherry fruit, dark chocolate, caramel, nuts and spicy oak. A robust whisky with great depth and silky smooth texture.

Finish: Very long and elegant with lingering sherry, spice, oak and a slightly sweet warmth.

The history of the house

Glenfarclas has been family owned since 1865 and is currently run by the sixth generation of the Grant family. The distillery is famous for its traditional open fire distillation and uncompromising approach to sherry maturation. Glenfarclas has been responsible for several historic milestones in the world of whisky, including Glenfarclas 105, considered to be the first commercially available cask strength single malt. In 2007, the legendary Family Casks range was launched with casks from every vintage since 1954.
