Tasting notes

The nose is deep and elegant with notes of dried fruits, raisins, orange peel and dark caramel, followed by fine notes of leather, nuts and old oak. A touch of spice and the natural sweetness of sherry tie it all together beautifully.

The palate is silky smooth and well-balanced with layers of dark chocolate, dried fruit, spicy oak and light coffee. The long maturation gives a rounded complexity where nothing sticks out, but everything plays together. The finish is long, warm and lingering with elegant sherry notes and dry oak.

The history of the house

Glenfarclas was founded in 1836 and has been owned by the Grant family since 1865, when John Grant bought the distillery for £511. Since then, six generations have carried on proud traditions and ensured that Glenfarclas remains independent and family-owned to this day.

In the heart of Speyside – at the foot of Ben Rinnes – the family has spent almost two centuries refining the art of creating great malt whisky. Glenfarclas marks more than 180 years in production and is known worldwide for its classic sherry-aged style, traditional pot stills and uncompromising approach to quality. Glenfarclas 40 Years is the culmination of this heritage.
