Maison Lavau Côtes du Rhône Villages 2020 – full-bodied Rhône wine with dark fruit and elegant spice

Maison Lavau Côtes du Rhône Villages 2020 is an intense and harmonious red wine from some of the best terroirs in the Southern Rhône. Here you get a wine with great concentration, ripe dark berries and elegant spices – wrapped in a soft and charming Rhône style that makes it incredibly easy to enjoy.

The grapes come from carefully selected parcels between Montélimar and Nîmes, where the sunny vineyards and clay and limestone soils create perfect conditions for Grenache and Syrah. The relatively low yields give extra concentration and depth to the wine.

The wine is made from 50% Grenache Noir and 50% Syrah. After destemming, the grapes undergo approximately 18 days of maceration in temperature-controlled tanks with daily pump-overs to enhance color, structure and aromatic intensity.

To balance fruit and complexity, half of the wine is aged in tank, while the other half matures in large 450 liter barrels previously used for one or two vintages. This aging adds subtle barrel notes and silky tannins without taking the focus away from the juicy fruit.

Maison Lavau Côtes du Rhône Villages 2020 is ideal with grilled meats, charcuterie, stews and mature cheeses like Camembert. A versatile Rhône wine with both power and elegance.

Tasting notes

The nose opens with ripe blackberries, blackcurrants and warm sweet spices, elegantly supported by subtle barrel notes. The palate is rich and concentrated with plenty of dark fruit, soft tannins and a long, round finish with spicy finesse.

The history of the house

The history of Maison Lavau began in Saint-Émilion in the 19th century with a strong passion for wine and terroir. The family later continued their wine adventure in Tunisia, where René Lavau and his son developed a small vineyard into the country’s largest wine production.

In the 1960s, Jean-Guy Lavau and Anne-Marie Lavau returned to France and established Maison Lavau in Sablet in the heart of the Rhône Valley. Since then, the family has been dedicated to creating authentic Rhône wines with a focus on quality, elegance and the character of the region.

Frédéric and Benoît Lavau have continued the family traditions while strengthening the house’s position by investing in their own vineyards in Rasteau, Valréas and Côtes du Rhône, among others. The collaboration with Château Maucoil in Châteauneuf-du-Pape emphasizes the house’s serious commitment to Rhône wine at the highest level.
