Plantation Rum Single Cask 17 years Nicaragua 42,3% – Eriksen Vinhandel 2016

Plantation Rum Single Cask 17 year old Nicaragua 42.3% is an exclusive special bottling selected for Eriksen Vinhandel in 2016. Here you get an elegant and complex rum with both tropical power and French finesse – created for the quality-conscious rum lover who wants something very special in the glass.

Distilled in 1999 in Nicaragua and aged for 17 years, this rum undergoes the classic Plantation double maturation. First, 15 years of tropical aging in bourbon barrels, where the heat and climate provide intensity, richness and depth. Then 2 years of continental aging in Pierre Ferrand Cognac barrels in France, adding structure, elegance and rounded complexity. To top it off, the rum is finished in Rye whisky casks, adding a unique spicy touch and extra character.

The result is a rum with a great balance of fruit, spice and cask. At 42.3% alcohol, it is both harmonious and full of character – a rum that invites contemplation.

Tasting notes

Nose: A unique and elegant opening with woody notes layered with lemon cream, apple and passion fruit. Whole grains and spices give a distinct nod to the rye whisky finish.

Taste: Slightly bitter and clean in expression. Vanilla and caramel meet pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg. Hints of hazelnut and oats round out the structure and create a nice balance between sweetness and spice.

Finish: Slow, spicy and powerful with deep wood notes, ripe fruit and a lingering touch of whole grain and spice.

The story behind the house

Plantation Rum (today known as Planteray) was created by Maison Ferrand, which specializes in selecting and aging rums from around the world. The philosophy is based on respect for the origin combined with French barrel tradition and double maturation in Cognac. This method gives the rums their characteristic balance between tropical intensity and European elegance.

The Single Cask series represents the most exclusive from the house – small, unique bottlings with individual finishes and limited availability. This Nicaragua 1999/2016 is an excellent example of how aging, finishing and careful selection can create a rum with depth, finesse and personality.
