Plantation Rum Single Cask 20 years Guyana 44.8% – 9th edition from Eriksen Vinhandel

Plantation Rum Single Cask 20 years Guyana 44,8% is a very special rum, selected as the 9th edition by Eriksen Vinhandel. An exclusive single cask from Guyana, distilled in 1998 at Demerara Distillers Limited and bottled in 2018 after 20 years of aging. This is a rum with depth, complexity and a unique cask finish that elevates the experience far beyond the ordinary.

This rum has undergone an impressive maturation journey. First, 17 years of tropical aging in Bourbon Cask in the warm climate of Guyana, where the rum develops intensity and concentration. Then 2 years of continental aging in Ferrand Cognac casks in France, which adds elegance and refinement. Finally, 6 months further maturation in Ocho Tequila Cask – an unusual finish that gives the rum a distinctive and characterful twist.

The dosage is kept at a modest 4 g/l, which preserves the rum’s natural expression and provides a nice balance between body and dryness. At 44.8%, it is powerful but still harmonious and well-integrated.

A rum for connoisseurs and collectors – and a strong proposition for a unique Guyana rum with extra layers of complexity from both cognac and tequila casks.

Tasting notes

Nose: Complex and full of character. It opens with an almost ultra añejo tequila profile with cooked agave, lime zest, fresh pepper and toasted almond. The aroma then evolves towards nougat, dates, ripe mango and a hint of ginseng.

Taste: Bold and full-bodied mouthfeel with a distinctive oak bite and a hint of balsamic at the start. The flavors move on to cocoa, olives, cloves and raisins, rounded off with a slightly salty nuance.

Finish: Very long and intense with notes of molasses, tobacco and licorice that linger long in the mouth.

Plantation Rum – World-class craftsmanship and cask experimentation

Plantation Rum is known for its uncompromising approach to barrel aging and its dual aging method, combining tropical maturation with European finesse. The collaboration with Ferrand Cognac provides access to exceptional barrels, and the experimental finishes – like here with Ocho Tequila Cask – create unique and collectible expressions.

This 20 year old Guyana Single Cask is a textbook example of how time, climate and creative cask choices can transform rum into a complex and deeply fascinating spirit.
