36 months in French oak and 10 years of aging

Protos has given this wine an exceptionally long and meticulous aging process. First, it undergoes malolactic fermentation in French oak, which helps create a softer and more harmonious structure.

The wine is then aged for a full 36 months in oak barrels. The first 18 months take place in new and one-year-old barrels. This is followed by an additional 18 months in larger barrels that have been used multiple times.

After barrel aging, the wine continues to develop in the bottle. In total, it has had an entire decade to develop its character, allowing dark fruit, spices, and ripe nuances to blend together.

It is precisely this patience that makes Protos 10 Años something special. Here, time is not merely part of the story, but a crucial part of the wine’s personality.

Old Tinta Fina vines from an exceptional vintage

The wine is made from Tinta Fina, the local name for Tempranillo in Ribera del Duero. The grapes come from a special selection of Protos’ oldest vineyards, where the vines have had many years to develop deep root systems.
