Quevedo 20 Year Old Tawny Port – Intense and elegant barrel aged port from the Douro
Quevedo 20 Years Tawny Port is a classic and deeply impressive tawny port from the Douro Valley – made for those who seek complexity, balance and true craftsmanship. With two decades of barrel aging, this 20 year old port develops a refined depth and silky texture that only time can produce.
The color is light brown with warm orange hues, a clear sign of long aging in oak barrels. The unfiltered style means that both aroma and flavor appear extra intense and nuanced. This is a tawny port with concentration, finesse and a remarkable purity of expression.
Quevedo 20 Year Old Tawny Port is the perfect choice for chocolate and nut desserts, fruit tarts or a well-rounded cheese board with both mild and strong cheeses. It also works perfectly on its own in the glass as a meditation wine, where its many layers can be explored at your leisure.
Tasting notes
Color: Light brown with elegant orange tones.
Aroma: Inviting aroma of almonds and caramelized walnuts with a fine undertone of coconut. Deep, nutty and slightly spicy profile.
Taste: Smooth and round in the mouth with notes of dried cherries, raisins and figs, beautifully rounded by chocolate and caramel. The long barrel aging provides structure, balance and complexity.
Finish: Harmonious and persistent with nuts, dried fruit and an elegant, long-lasting caramel sweetness.
The house behind – Quevedo
The Quevedo family has owned fields and vineyards for generations and is based in São João da Pesqueira in the heart of the Douro Valley. In the 1970s and 80s, the family expanded their estate, Quinta da Alegria, and in 1991 they launched their own wines under the Quevedo name.
Like many smaller producers, for decades the family sold their grapes to the big Port houses – including Taylor (Taylor Fladgate & Yeatman). In the hot vintage of 1975, the grapes were not initially purchased, and Oscar Sr. had to start production himself. This was the start of the family’s own wine production and a crucial milestone in the history of the house.
In 1983, the family bought Quinta Vale D’Agodinho, which today is their most important field. Since then, both the winery and cellars have been expanded as the area has grown to over 100 hectares. All grapes are picked by hand in small boxes in the cool morning hours and brought to the cellar where, after destemming, they are traditionally placed in granite vats – the classic lagares. Today, Quevedo exports port all over the world and is known for quality, authenticity and respect for the proud traditions of the Douro.
