Quevedo Vintage 2023 – Exclusive Vintage Port from the Douro in a very limited edition
Quevedo Vintage 2023 is a powerful and collectible Vintage Port from the Douro Valley – created in a vintage that placed extreme demands on winemakers. 2023 was not a year that forgave laziness. High temperatures, unusual rainfall and even a swarm of insects that inhibited photosynthesis in the vines made working in the fields a battle against the whims of nature.
Quevedo rose to the challenge with uncompromising dedication. The result is a Vintage Port of impressive concentration, complexity and balance – a wine that emphasizes the house’s high standards and confirms their position as one of the Douro’s most exciting Port houses. Production is severely limited to just 1200 bottles, making Quevedo Vintage 2023 a coveted jewel for collectors and passionate Port enthusiasts alike.
As a true Vintage Port, the wine is made from grapes from a single vintage and aged for a short time in barrel before being bottled to mature further. The result is a Port with enormous ageing capacity, structured tannins and a fruit intensity that can develop for decades.
Tasting notes
Color: Deep, dense dark red with an almost black core.
Aroma: Intense and powerful nose with notes of blackberries, ripe plums, dark chocolate and warm spices. A subtle minerality reveals the wine’s terroir and adds depth.
Taste: Great concentration and silky smooth but pronounced tannins. The low yields in the field have produced an impressive fruit density balanced by lively acidity and a firm, structured core. Complex and layered with both power and elegance.
Finish: Long, intense and structured with dark fruit, cocoa and spice that lingers long.
Serving and storage
Quevedo Vintage 2023 is excellent for long-term cellaring and will develop even greater complexity over the coming decades. Decanting is recommended – especially for the first several years. Perfect with strong cheeses, dark chocolate or as a meditation wine where you can really immerse yourself in its depth and structure.
The house behind it – Quevedo
The Quevedo family has owned vineyards for generations and is based in São João da Pesqueira in the middle of the Douro Valley. In the 1970s and 80s, the family expanded their estate, Quinta da Alegria, and in 1991 they began producing port wine under their own name.
For decades the family supplied grapes to major Port houses such as Taylor (Taylor Fladgate & Yeatman), a clear testament to the quality of their fields. In 1975, however, they were forced to produce their own wine – a decision that changed the family’s history and laid the foundation for modern Quevedo.
Today, the family has more than 100 hectares of vineyards, where all grapes are picked by hand in small boxes in the cool morning hours. After destemming, the grapes are traditionally racked into granite vats (lagares) and fermentation is stopped by adding grape spirit when the desired balance between sweetness and structure is achieved. The result is authentic port with respect for the proud traditions of the Douro and modern precision in the cellar.
