Taylor’s 2009 Vintage Port – Classic Vintage Port from Douro

Taylor’s 2009 Vintage Port is a monumental port from one of the Douro Valley’s most iconic and traditional houses. This is a true Vintage Port with power, structure and ageing potential for decades to come. A Port created for collectors, connoisseurs and connoisseurs who want the best of Portugal.

The 2009 vintage showcases Taylor’s signature style with intense fruit, deep color and a firm tannic structure. The grapes come from the house’s own top Douro vineyards – primarily Quinta de Vargellas and Quinta de Terra Feita – both classified in Group A, the highest quality classification in the region. The combination of different microclimates produces a port with complexity, concentration and an impressive balance.

The wine is aged for approximately 2 years in large oak barrels before being bottled for further development. The result is a powerful and structured Vintage Port that develops beautifully over many years.

Tasting notes

Color: Beautiful, deep purple – almost black – with an intense core.

Aroma: Explosive aromas of black berries, blackberries and black currants, accompanied by violets and roses. An exotic and concentrated nose with impressive depth.

Flavor: Powerful and dense fruit. Concentrated, yet elegant and well-balanced. Distinct, ripe tannins provide structure and backbone. The long finish is intense, persistent and harmonious.

Serving and storage

Vintage Port can be drunk after 4-5 years. However, it reaches its full potential after 15-20 years of bottle ageing. Taylor’s 2009 has the structure to develop for decades.

Due to the natural sediment, the bottle should be left upright for 48 hours before opening. Decant gently so that the sediment remains in the bottle. Port is at its best 2-3 hours after decanting and should be enjoyed within 24 hours.

This Vintage Port is ideal with rich desserts, dark chocolate and mature cheeses. It’s also perfect as a meditation glass after a big meal.

The history of the house

Taylor’s – officially Taylor, Fladgate & Yeatman – was founded over 300 years ago and is still an independent family-owned company today. Headquartered in Vila Nova de Gaia, the Ports are aged and exported to more than 50 countries worldwide.

The house philosophy has always been quality over quantity. With its own top vineyards in the Douro and uncompromising selection of grapes, Taylor’s has created some of the world’s most respected Vintage Ports over the centuries. Taylor’s 2009 Vintage Port is a shining example of this heritage.
