Taylor’s 2017 Vintage Port – 6 liter Imperiale from a legendary vintage

Taylor’s 2017 Vintage Port is one of the most impressive Ports of recent times. In this huge 6 liter imperial bottle, the wine becomes a true collector’s item and a spectacular addition to any wine cellar. The 2017 vintage has received enormous international recognition and is already considered one of the great vintage vintages of the Douro.

Its quality is underlined by top reviews from the world’s leading wine writers. Robert Parker rates the wine 98-100 points, while James Suckling gives it 99 points and calls it “Truly excellent”. Taylor’s themselves compare the vintage to the legendary 1945 Vintage, which says a lot about the wine’s potential.

In the glass, the wine is a deep ruby red color with an almost purple rim. The aroma is intense and complex with notes of violet, dark forest berries, eucalyptus and a hint of licorice. The taste is powerful and concentrated with impressive depth and layers of dark fruit. The ripe tannins and great acidity give the wine a structure that indicates enormous ageing potential.

Experts expect this vintage to develop for 50 to 75 years. The large 6 liter bottle provides even better storage conditions. The wine can of course be stored for decades, but can also be enjoyed young for its intense fruit and power.

Serving: Serve slightly chilled in large red wine glasses. It can be enjoyed on its own or with hearty dishes such as a juicy red pepper steak, mature cheeses or dark chocolate.

History of the house

Taylor’s Port, officially Taylor, Fladgate & Yeatman, was founded in 1692 and is one of the most respected Port houses in the world. For more than three centuries, the house has produced top-class Port wines.

The grapes come from the house’s three iconic vineyards in the Douro: Quinta de Vargellas, Quinta de Terra Feita and Quinta do Junco. All three fields are classified in category A, which is the highest classification in the Douro. The combination of different microclimates produces wines with great complexity and structure.

Taylor’s has historically been a pioneer in the world of Port. The house bought its own vineyards in the Douro as early as 1744, created the first Single Quinta Vintage and introduced the Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) in 1970. Today, Taylor’s is still one of the largest producers of Vintage Port.
