Château Calon Ségur (3rd Cru), the northernmost of the classified Cru castles in Médoc, is located northwest of the village of Saint Estèphe. Château Calon Ségur is said to be one of the three oldest wineries in Saint Estèphe. The castle's history dates back to 1147, when it was owned by the Monseigneur de Calon. The property changed owners - like most other castles in Bordeaux - and after being owned by the de Ségur family for generations, it ended up belonging to the Marquis de Ségur, which also owned the 1st Cru castles Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Latour in Pauillac . He is quoted as saying: "I make my wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is in Calon", which is why the heart has been a symbol of Château Calon Ségur for many years.

The Super 2. Cru Classé castle Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is owned by the Borie family, who acquired the castle in 1942. At that time, the castle was not in the best condition. Wine merchant Francis Borie renovated the property and brought the wine up among the best in the region. The baton was passed on to his son, Jean-Eugène, who successfully drove Ducru-Beaucaillou through the second half of the 20th century, and when Jean-Eugène died in 1998, sons François-Xavier and Bruno took over. Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou has thus been owned by the Bories family for the entire 3rd generations.

Formerly the castle grounds were part of the Cheval Blanc, but opposite this one, Chateau de Figeac is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon instead of Cabernet Franc. In 2008, the property underwent a major renovation of the fields to preserve its classic expression of the future and thus maintain the enticing style. Despite the fact that it is on the right side, it is more of a classic wine from the left bank.

Chateau Kirwan
3 Cru Margaux 2021

Château Kirwan overlooks the Margaux appellation from the Cantenac plateau. 37 hectares of gravel and clay, where the different soil types contribute to several layers of flavor in the wines. There are 45 different plots here. The Merlot vines in the "Cabinet Ouest" plot, with its layered clay, produce round, fleshy, balanced vines. Closer to the château, the sun is reflected dazzled by surface gravel in the "Mois de juin" parcel in the middle of the estate, where Cabernet Sauvignon matures well and delivers Kirwan's velvety tannins. In the distance you can make out the "Canon" grounds, located at the highest point of the vineyard. Here, Petit Verdot vines grow in gravel and contribute to the grape's characteristic signature.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild
Pauillac 2015 Magnum - 1.5 liter

Pauillac is located between Saint-Julien and Saint-Estèphe. Three out of the five 1st Crus come from here, namely Château Latour, Château Lafite and Château Mouton-Rothschild. Also, i.a. The 2nd Crus Pichon Longueville, Comtesse de Lalande and Pichon Baron as well as the 5th Crus Lynch Bages and Grand-Puy-Lacoste, can manage among the very best wines, come from here. It is the poor and gravelly soil that provides fertile ground for the elegant wines that are produced primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon. The soil forces the roots to search deep down, giving the finished wine a multitude of nuances with plenty of juice and power. The wines from the area are generally characterized by a deep and strong blackcurrant taste, lots of richness and elegance with a slightly smoky and animalistic touch.

Lafite was first mentioned in 1234 in connection with Abbot Gombaud de Lafite. There were probably already vineyards on the farm in the 1670s when Jaques de Ségur built the castle's reputation as a wine castle. Ségur's son married the heir to Château Latour and since then the history of the two castles has been closely linked. In 1868 the castle was bought by Baron James de Rothschild, whose brother owned Mouton Rothschild. James died soon after, but his three sons took over the management of the 74 ha. The first half of the 20th century was challenging with Phylloxera, depression and war. In 1945, Baron Elie took over with a program of restoration of the castle and fields, which his nephew Baron Eric re-evaluated at the same time as a general modernization when he subsequently took over. Today, 112 ha are covered. of well-drained and well-exposed vineyards. Since 1962, both Lafite and Durhart-Milon have been run by technical director Eric Kohler, together with winemaker Christophe Congé.

Château Lagrange is located in AOC Saint-Julien on the left bank of Bordeaux. The castle, along with just 13 others, was classified as 3. Cru Classé at the famous Bordeaux classification in 1855.

Saint Julien is one of the most homogeneous, reliable and perhaps also undervalued municipalities in Bordeaux. Saint Julien may lack popularity because, unlike Margaux and Pauillac, for example, it has no 1. Cru castles. Instead, Saint-Julien boasts no less than five excellent 2nd-place finishes. Cru castles and (at least since the 1980s) an outstanding quality in winemaking. Saint Julien is the municipality of the wine connoissees who want elegance, sophistication, body and balance in their Bordeaux wines.

For many years, however, Lagrange had a bad reputation and the wines rarely lived up to the fine classification. However, this changed markedly throughout the 1980s after the Japanese spirits giant Suntory bought the castle in 1983 and led to massive investment in both fields and cellars. In total, the castle currently has 182 hectares of vineyards, but only the 118 hectares are in Saint-Julien. The average age of the vines is about 35 years. Grape wise they have planted 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, and 7% Petit Verdot. About 250,000 bottles of the first wine are produced annually, and in addition the second wine "Les Fiefs de Lagrange" and the white wine "Les Arums de Lagrange". the first wine, which today is regarded as one of the absolute leaders in Saint-Julien. It is about 20 months on French oak, of which 60% are new casks. It has a beautiful, warm burgundy color. Aromas in the scent of dark berries, blackcurrants and a little licorice. Soft and rich with well-integrated tannins and long finishes. In short: Saint-Julien in the elegant style, with great aromatic complexity.

Château Laniote has been in the family of Arnaud de la Filolie for almost centuries. The property was created in 1816 by a wine merchant in Saint-Emilion named Pierre Lacoste, who bought a cellar and some adjoining vines, and then gradually expanded the property through 1844.

The property was then transferred in a direct line from mother to daughter for eight generations. The owner's name thus changed for each inheritance: Lacoste, Rouja, Freymond, Schneider, La Filolie.

Château Lascombes is a remarkable estate in the Bordeaux region, with a history dating back to 1625. With its 118 hectares of vineyards, most of which (112 hectares) are located in the Margaux appellation and the remaining 6 hectares in Haut-Médoc, it is one of the largest properties in the Médoc area.

Export and USA Connection:

  • Château Lascombes wine has always enjoyed great success in export markets. Particularly in the United States, it has been popular and in demand. This can be attributed to Bordeaux icon Alexis Lichine, who took over the estate's management in 1952 with strong support from American investors. Under his leadership, the estate's vineyards were significantly expanded over two decades. He also restructured the estate's winemaking and brought about a significant increase in quality.

Classification and Upgrading:

  • After acquiring the property in April 2001, new American owners have been working on a major renovation and restructuring with the aim of elevating Château Lascombes to a higher tier, making it worthy of the classification as a 2nd Growth (2e Cru Classé), an honorable and prestigious status in Bordeaux's classification system for vineyards.

Château Lascombes has a long and significant history in the world of Bordeaux wine and has undergone significant changes and improvements in recent years to continue producing high-quality wine. Its location in Margaux, one of the most prestigious areas in Bordeaux, and its commitment to enhancing quality make it an estate worth following and exploring.

Chateau Pedesclaux was founded by Pierre Urbain Pedesclaux in 1810, when he bought some land belonging to Chateau Grand Puy. Pedesclaux had until then subsisted as a wine merchant in Bordeaux.

In 1891 the property was sold to Count Gastebois and Chateau Pedesclaux had several owners until 1950, when Lucien Jugla bought the possessions. It was under his ownership that the property and vineyards were restored.

In 1965, Chateau Pedesclaux was taken over by Juglas' 5 children, who radically modernized it between 2004 and 2007. In 2009, the Pedesclaux family sold to Jacky Lorenzetti, who already owned Château Lilian Ladouys in St. Petersburg. Estephe. For Rauzan Gassies, frankly, have never lived up to their classification as a 2nd-ranked man. Cru Slot. This is despite their otherwise well-located fields, some of which border Château Margaux itself. In 1983, the company hired Jacques Théo as director of Château Rauzan-Ségla and Emile Peynaud as an oenologist. And in 1986, the castle emerged as a state-of-the-art vineyard with 20 new stainless steel tanks and a newly renovated cellar. Château Rauzan-Ségla benefited from these huge investments for a few years. Then the parent company was hit by financial problems and Château Rauzan-Ségla was put up for sale.

In 1994, Chanel bought with the Wertheimer Château Rauzan-Segla family, and soon after that a new renovation programme was launched. The vineyards were drained and a 15-kilometer laid pipe network is now in place. Two plots of Petit Verdot were planted and 3 hectares of vines were grafted over with Merlot. Today there are 51 hectares of production with an average total production of 200,000 bottles of Château Rauzan-Segla and the castle's 2nd wine Ségla. The castle cellars have been adapted and the old large fermentation tanks have gradually been replaced by smaller tanks – adapted to the size of the individual plots.  Since the 2004 harvest, the grapes have been sorted on two 10-metre long vibrating tables so that each grape is checked before it moves on to fermentation. The storage cellars have been completely renovated and a new room has been built for bottling. Labelling machines have been installed and Château Rauzan-Ségla is now completely independent throughout the production process.

After careful and gentle renovation, carried out according to the original plans of 1904, the castle itself now looks again as it was centuries ago.

The large and often overlooked Chateau Troplong Mondot is located southeast of Saint-Émilion town and has a lovely view from its 110m high plateau above the city from a south-easterly direction. The castle was built by the family de Sèze in 1745 and the first vineyards were planted in 1850. The castle has the classification Saint-Émilion AOC Premier Grand Cru Classé B and has a very distinguished neighbor in the form of Chateau Pavie, which in 2012 was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé A.

The castle was owned by a Belgian wine merchant in the early 20th century until 1936, when the Parisian wine merchant Alexander Vallette bought the castle. In 1980, his great-grandson Christine Valette inherited the castle, and with absolutely no sense of either growing wine or doing business, she was supported by the now reputable oenologist Michel Rolland, who helped as a consultant.

Rolland introduced his philosophy of late-harvested grapes with very low grape return, only to highlight the best grapes from the fields. The second major measure was that in future there should be absolutely no machine harvest. The combination of Rolland's actions and Christine's vision resulted in an ever-improving quality over the next decades. Sadly, Christine passed away far too soon in 2014.

The castle has a total of 43 hectares, with 85% Merlot being supplemented with 13% Cabernet Sauuvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. Since 1985, the castle has produced a 2nd wine called "Mondot" and has a total production of both first and second wines of approximately 110,000 bottles.

The Château d’Issan is one of the jewels of the Margaux appellation. The history of the castle goes back many hundreds of years, and over the years it has led a changeable life.

Since 1945 it has been owned by the Cruse family. Since 1998, Emmanuel Cruse has been in charge of the operation, and he has really managed to continuously raise the quality to the current very high level.

The quality improvements are i.a. a. achieved through investments in new technology, but also with a significantly increased care in the selection of the grapes, which has meant that a larger proportion of the grapes are now used on the second wine Blason d’Issan.
