Between Guyana, Venezuela and Barbados lies the country of Trinidad and Tobago, which as suggested consists of two islands, of which Trinidad is the absolute largest. Columbus set foot on Trinidad in the last year of the 15th century and the islands have since been under both Spanish and British rule. Today, the country is an independent republic with a strong culture - a culture that, among other things, has given the world the calypso! Along Trinidad's old main thoroughfare Southern Main Road lay the distillery Caroni from 1918 until it was closed at the beginning of the new millennium. The distillery's aged rum is powerful, dry, well - balanced with woody and spicy notes and a bit of chocolate towards the end.

Founded in 1923, in the heart of the Caroni plain´s sugarcane plantations, this farmed Trinidad dilstillery was renowned throughout the world for producing one of the very best heavy rums, receiving high praise from the British Navy. In 2003, with the closing of thenearby state-owned sugar refinery, the Trinidad sugarcane productioncreased and the distillery was inevitably shut down shortly after. Caroni 17 year old contains rum from the 1998 vintage, distilled and matured for fifteen years on the island. The tropical conditions result in a 80% loss of the distilled spirit due to evaporation: The angel´s share. To perfectly capture the unique heavy rum character of this closed distillery Caroni 17 year old has been bottled at 55%. Furthermore, the label is a reproduction of an original from 1940 to commemorate the golden age of Trinidad Rum.
