Badia a Passignano Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2020 is one of the most prestigious wines from the Antinori family estate in the heart of Chianti Classico. The wine is made exclusively from selected Sangiovese grapes from the Badia a Passignano estate vineyards. The result is a wine of deep complexity, classic Tuscan elegance and a clear expression of the area’s terroir.

The vineyards are located around 300 meters above sea level and are planted in soil rich in limestone. This soil provides optimal conditions for the Sangiovese grape and contributes to the structure, freshness and minerality of the wine. The combination of the altitude, the Tuscan climate and the limestone-rich soil creates wines with intense fruit and great balance.

Production takes place in the historic cellars of Badia di Passignano, a 10th century monastery. Here, modern vinification is combined with centuries of wine tradition. The careful selection of grapes and meticulous vinification ensure a wine with great depth, elegance and ageing potential.

The 2020 vintage in Chianti Classico began with a mild and dry winter. At the end of March there was a short cold spell, but conditions allowed for early budding in the vineyards. Spring was relatively cool and rainy, while summer was warm with adequate rainfall. These conditions allowed the grapes to develop optimally. The harvest began in late September and continued into the first days of October.
