Weingut Gabel Herxheimer Kirchenstück Weissburgunder Trocken Pfalz 2024

Weingut Gabel Herxheimer Kirchenstück Weissburgunder Trocken 2024 is an extraordinary white wine from one of the Pfalz’s most exciting single vineyards. Herxheimer Kirchenstück is known for its chalky soils and unique terroir, creating wines with distinctive minerality, great depth and a character that develops impressively over time.

The grapes for this Weissburgunder are selectively harvested by hand over several rounds to ensure optimal ripeness and quality. After harvest, the must undergoes spontaneous fermentation in French tonneaux barrels, allowing the wine’s natural complexity to develop without unnecessary intervention. The wine is then aged for a full 10 months on the lees in the same barrels and only bottled after a year of maturation without filtration or clarification.

The result is a deeply impressive Weissburgunder with power, finesse and terroir character. It’s a wine that combines the generous fruit of the Pfalz with the precise minerality of the limestone soil and great barrel integration. A serious white wine that can be enjoyed now or cellared for many years.

Tasting notes

The aroma is complex and intense with notes of smoke, roasted coffee beans, citrus fruits, tart apples and ripe pears. Beneath the fruity layers are chalky mineral nuances, stone flour and elegant yeast notes from the long ageing on the lees.

In the mouth, the wine is powerful, tight and precisely focused. The chalky minerality provides structure and energy, while the fruit balances the wine’s concentration. Notes of citrus, apple, pear and subtle roasted notes develop throughout the long palate, finishing with impressive length and complexity.

This wine is ideal with shellfish, lobster, grilled fish, poultry, veal, mushroom dishes and mature cheeses, where its structure and minerality really come into their own.

The history of the house

Weingut Gabel is a family-owned winery in the Palatinate, where passion for terroir and craftsmanship is the driving force behind every bottle. The winery works with low yields, selective hand harvesting and minimal intervention in the cellar to let the natural character of the fields shine through.

Herxheimer Kirchenstück is among the house’s most prestigious vineyards. The calcareous soils produce wines with great minerality, concentration and ageing potential. These qualities have helped Weingut Gabel achieve great recognition among critics and wine lovers alike.

The fact that the winery won 1st place at the Falstaff Weißburgunder Trophy 2025 with vintage 2023 underlines the extraordinary quality that characterizes the house’s Weissburgunder wines. The 2024 vintage follows with an impressive 94 points from Falstaff and confirms the winery’s position among the absolute best producers of Weissburgunder in Germany.
