The history of Glencadam – From 1825 to today

Glencadam Distillery opened its doors in 1825 – the year after large-scale whisky production was legalized in Scotland.
Today, just as then, the whisky is produced using traditional Highland methods without unnecessary shortcuts. The distillery is located just half a mile from the historic town of Brechin in Scottish Angus – surrounded by pure nature and crystal clear springs.

The water supply comes from Glencadam’s own ancient rights to a spring in the Unthank Hills, ensuring the fresh, clean and mineral character for which the house whisky is so well known. The two original pot stills have been the heart of the distillery since its inception, and their unique construction creates the signature style Glencadam is loved for:
