Habitation Velier Last Ward 2009 – Barbados Pure Single Rum 59% | Rare pot still bottling

We’re talking about real rum history in a bottle. Habitation Velier Last Ward 2009 is an extremely rare Barbados Pure Single Rum, distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2018 at a whopping 59%. A powerful, authentic and uncompromising rum, created for connoisseurs and collectors seeking the best of the Caribbean.

This release comes from the last casks produced during the Ward family’s ownership of Mount Gay Distillery – a family that controlled the distillery for more than 100 years. It is the final 2009 bottling from a total of 18 casks – an end of an era and a piece of liquid rum history.

If you are looking for Habitation Velier Last Ward 2009, Barbados pot still rum, Pure Single Rum 59% or a rare collector’s bottle from Velier, this is one of the most authentic and sought after releases from Barbados.

Distillation and aging

The rum is 100% pot still distilled in Double Retort Pot Still at Mount Gay in St. Lucy, Barbados. This is an unusual triple distillation in the classic McMillan pot stills – a method that provides extra purity, complexity and structure.

After distillation in 2009, the rum was aged in ex-bourbon casks in tropical conditions in Barbados for 9 years. Tropical aging means intensive interaction between wood and spirit, resulting in greater concentration, deeper color and distinct barrel character compared to European aging.

Velier acquired the casks following the sale of the distillery in 2014 and this bottling represents the last remnants of the 2009 production – a true ‘Last Ward’ chapter.
