J.M. Labruyère Prologue 2020 Grand Cru Extra Brut Champagne
J.M. Labruyère Prologue 2020 is the house’s signature cuvée and the perfect introduction to the philosophy that has made Champagne J.M. Labruyère one of the most exciting names in Verzenay. It’s all about uncompromising quality, respect for the terroir, precise dosage and long aging on the lees to achieve maximum complexity and elegance.
This Grand Cru Champagne is based on the exceptional 2020 harvest, which was characterized by a mild and rainy winter followed by a hot and dry summer. The harvest began as early as August 25, making it one of the earliest in Champagne. The result was Pinot Noir grapes with great aromatic intensity and a beautiful expression of Verzenay’s famous terroir.
Prologue 2020 is composed of 73% Pinot Noir and 27% Chardonnay, supplemented by 30% reserve wines from the 2019, 2018, 2016 and 2015 vintages. Part of the wine is aged in oak barrels, adding extra depth and complexity. After bottling in July 2021, the wine spent a long time on the lees until disgorgement in March 2025, resulting in impressive finesse and a beautifully integrated mousse.
It is a generous and harmonious Champagne that works perfectly as an aperitif, but also accompanies desserts, seafood, light poultry and refined gastronomic dishes with great elegance.
Tasting notes
The color is clear golden yellow with fine, persistent bubbles. The aroma opens with ripe cherries and red fruits, elegantly accompanied by toasted notes, brioche and subtle hints of anise and menthol. The palate is full-bodied and refined with juicy red fruits, nice minerality and a creamy texture. The finish is long, fresh and perfectly balanced with impressive precision.
