Unique maturation process

Extreme No. 5 has undergone an impressive aging process that combines tropical intensity with European finesse:

• Tropical aging: 5 years in bourbon barrels in Barbados
• Continental aging: 14 years in bourbon barrels
• Finish: 2 years in Ferrand Cognac barrels in France

The tropical aging provides structure, richness and concentration, while the long continental maturation and cognac finish add elegance, spice and silky complexity. The combination creates a rum with both power and finesse.

Aroma: Ripe tropical fruits, vanilla, coconut, toasted almonds, caramel and an elegant hint of cognac and spice.

The story behind West Indies Rum Distillery

West Indies Rum Distillery was founded in 1893 on Brighton Beach in Barbados by George Stade, an innovative inventor with the ambition to create the best rum in the world. Today, this pioneering spirit is continued by Alexandre Gabriel, Master Blender at Plantation Rum, who combines historical techniques with modern experiments in fermentation, distillation and aging.

Extreme Series V celebrates Barbados’ rich rum culture and includes three limited editions from 1986, 2000 and 2007 – all ambassadors of the island’s historical importance as the birthplace of rum. The series is presented with artwork by Barbadian artist Alex Mars, whose colorful expression captures the creative energy of the island.
